yes it did. those books were jewish books as the nazis were against the jews. They also burnt down temples and sent many jews to concentration camps, as well as other "minorities" such as disabled-people, jehovah's witnesses, criminals, and those who opposed the nazi party. _________________ Why is the rum gone? |

One of our German friends can probably fill you in with more accuracy than I can. But I think the books that were burned were not just Jewish books, but books that were considered "unGerman." Which included books with themes that didn't fit the Nazi political worldview.
Art was also a target. _________________ : Junior General Site : Forum Rules : Forum FAQs : |

Yes, the Nazi's organized these things early on around universities, and many of the people burning the books were students and pro-Nazi professors. The initiative was often student based and the burning reflected anything that might be "tainted" by Jews, Communists, Jehovah's Witnesses, labor unions, homosexuals, and other Un-German elements. _________________ Curse and Swear Lord Kildare!

That bit annoyed me
They really didn't need to play the Koeniggraetzer March during that scene
It's one of the classic Prussian marches and isn't at all associated with the Nazis
But whatever, it's a movie _________________

Nazis were proud of "old german military traditions" so they played those songs.
there is a nice quote of a writer who watched the burning of those books:

are you a young person and haven`t studied history that much?
Here in Japan i got a kick out of reading in the Japanese media (English translations) that Japanese kids don`t know who the Nazi`s or Soviet Union. Translaters who have to put in subtitles were baffled that both these terms weren`t known. _________________ I`m calm at peace and enlightened |
